It's quite frequent in My Little Pony fanfics to have Trixie replace Twilight as the Element of Magic when the latter dies or turns evil (surprisingly frequent, though no one got as good a name for her as Nightmare Gloaming). Having watched the end of Season 3 with adorable sister yesterday, I came up with what I thought was a pretty appropriate version of this.

* * *

"You think you can destroy the Elements of Harmony just like that?" Trixie scoffed, tossing her mane wilfully at Nightmare Moon. "Well, you're wrong. Because the spirits of the Elements of Harmony are right here!"

Behind her, all five of the Ponyville mares drew in a gasp. "What?" Nightmare Moon growled, her blue-green eyes slitted to piercing narrowness.

Trixie drew herself up to her full height, using Showpony Pose Number 12 (a good buildup for the big finale, to impress whichever darling little rubes had come to watch her today). "Trixie," said Trixie, "who cannot give lame little lesser ponies false hope, even at the cost of their feelings, represents the spirit of... honesty!"

"Aw, I think I see where this is going," Applejack grumbled to Rainbow Dash. The Elements remained stoically still.

Trixie continued her speech, building up her well-practiced cadence and texture. She felt rather on a roll already. This could be even better than that show at Los Pegasus when she hadn't needed to pay for hay smoothies for the next week. "Trixie, who gives poor ponies a model for what they could aspire to be half as fantastic as if they really try, represents the spirit of... kindness! Trixie, who often cannot hold in her amusement when she sees the tremendous egos of those without a fraction of her talent, represents the spirit of... laughter! Trixie, who performs even for pathetic little one-horse towns in the middle of nowhere who cannot possibly give her anything close to her worth, represents the spirit of... generosity! And Trixie, who does not give up a show even when it's obvious that lesser ponies aren't going to applaud loudly enough, represents the spirit of... loyalty!"

"I don't quite understand what she's going for here," Fluttershy whispered to Pinkie Pie. Rarity's hoof was firmly in her own face.

Nightmare Moon cast a brief, nervous look down at the shards of the Elements. They reassured her by remaining helpfully inert and petrified. When she turned her eyes back up to examine Trixie, she couldn't help a brief chuckle at the unicorn's dramatic, heroic stance. (Showpony Pose Number 13, more of an upgrade to 12 than a pose in and of itself, but Trixie did enjoy padding out her numbers.) "You're kidding, right?" she questioned. "This is a joke that's been made up in the last thousand years. That's why I don't think it's funny. Right?"

"But, I hear you cry, Trixie still does not have the sixth element! Trixie's plan to make a spark did not work!" Trixie stomped the castle floor. She really should have had some pyrotechnics at this point. Uncooperative castle ruins. Trixie was certainly going to think twice before performing here again, best show of her life or not. "But it did! Trixie felt the spark the very moment Trixie realised how happy she was to be Trixie, the most amazing and fabulous unicorn in all of Equestria! The spark ignited inside Trixie when Trixie realised that she... is Trixie! You see, Nightmare Moon, when those Elements are ignited by the spark, that resides in the heart of Trixie, it creates the sixth element – the element of magic!"

There was a long pause, as the Elements continued to remain wholly inert.

"The element of MAGIC," Trixie repeated herself, dialling up the bombast another several notches. She didn't really know if she could go much higher.

A cloud of lightning-rippling purple energy was starting to form behind Nightmare Moon. "Time to go," Rainbow Dash muttered, chivvying the other ponies towards the door with her hooves.

"The element..." Trixie tried again, and then everything went very bright and very dark in quick succession.

Dear Princess Celestia,

It can hardly be said to be Trixie's fault if some overhyped Elements and ungrateful moon-tyrants have no idea how to play their parts.

Your faithful superior,
Trixie.

This is delightful, particularly the ending (and the insistent 'the element of MAGIC' repetition), and makes me want to see more or less every episode of Friendship is Magic with Trixie in Twilight's place. Not that you have to write them all. (Not that you have to.)
